This may create a strange sense of deja vu but 3 months on we’re on the hunt again for like-minded colleagues to join our expanding team!
At Horizon, we pride ourselves on Doing Dairy Differently. Since establishing the practice in 2017 we have prioritised enabling farmers to succeed through our focus on advice, and we service a wide range of dairies across the West Midlands. Education is at the core of what we do, enabling our farms drive their businesses forward and developing the farmers of the future. We also provide technical consultancy to several industry companies, alongside involvement in undergraduate teaching through our partnership with Harper Keele vet school. We do still know how to drive a scalpel blade and get covered in s**t, but this is a way less significant part of our day!
We are looking for two colleagues who share our vision. There’s a better way to help farms than just treating the sick, focusing on planning and prevention rather than heroics. These roles are similar, but have a slightly different bias:
Clinically focused vet - We need someone who wants to get stuck in and build relationships with progressive dairy farms, to help them achieve their goals while delivering value. With roughly 10k cows under our care there is still a decent amount of brown arm work, but also a significant focus on data analysis and advisory inputs. The role will also involve regular delivery of farmer training alongside teaching the next generation of farm vets as a clinical training partner with Harper Keele vet school. We have a dedicated TB testing team, so whilst occasional premovement tests do come up, there’ll be limited need to spend days testing. The role will be fully supported, and all levels of experience considered so don’t go thinking you haven’t got what it takes! The right mindset is the most important attribute so please get in touch.
Consultancy focused vet – We’re looking for someone who is perhaps looking for a new challenge away from routine clinical work to help support our growing industry consultancy. The work covers a wide range of activities including training, technical input, research and field consultancy. We work with a diverse mix of companies including milk processors, chemical manufacturers, training providers, milk recording agencies, agri-businesses and other veterinary practices, but this is constantly evolving. In recent months we have seen a significant increase in projects focusing on farm efficiency and environmental footprints, and we want to progress our Emergenetics service to further support team working and communication in the sector. Whilst some of our existing work is based internationally, the willingness to travel abroad is not a prerequisite. The role could be tailored to interests/expertise, including retaining clinical duties for those who still enjoy the challenge of farm vetting. Although some experience and farm veterinary expertise is needed, the role will be fully supported so you don’t need to have extensive letters after your name or a long CV! Drop us a line to chat about this role further.
Looking after our team is very important to us, as is a real work / life balance. We believe we offer an excellent remuneration package with a 4.5-day week and are generally blessed with a low volumes of OOH calls thanks to exceptionally capable clients. Several of our team already work on a part time / flexible basis, so we are very comfortable consider all circumstances. As a genuinely independent practice we also offer a path to business ownership for the right candidate
It’s not just a tag line, we really do believe in doing dairy differently. So, if you’re ready to be part of a team that has done away with the traditional constraints of your average farm practice, we want to hear from you.
